Get Major Gifts is a quick read, but the author hits the important points, especially about fears. I’m re-reading that chapter! I can tell this will really help me in my fundraising efforts.
Something most people don’t talk about is the fear of fundraising. I know lots of people in the development world who have jobs in fundraising, and they’re afraid to make the ask! This book brings it all out in the open and gives actionable advice on how to most past your fears.
This book came around just in time for me. I was recently promoted to a Major Gifts position at my nonprofit. I have experience with Annual Fund giving, but sitting down in person with a donor asking for a significant donation is not something I’ve done before. I’ll get a lot of use out of Get Major Gifts. After reading the book and doing the exercise that Lisa recommends, I already feel more confident!
